The American Commercial Religion

One advantage of spending a fair amount of time thinking about, reading and teaching American commercial law after a practicing career in it, and yet spending more scholarly time engaged in only at times related comparative work (whether Islamic finance, commercial law in the Middle East or even constitutionalism in Iraq) is that I feel I have a relatively free hand to think whatever I want when it comes to the shortcomings of the American commercial mindset.  I don't have masters to please, it's perfectly fine if the whole lot of them despise me.  Then again, I haven't done much pleasing in my own scholarly fields either, so who knows maybe it's just a contrarian nature.

Anyway, my thoughts on religious faith in secular concepts generally, on a particular faith in American conceptions of commerce specifically and on the manner in which all of this gets translated into an Adoration of the Uniform Commercial Code that can only be described as fanatic, see a relatively recent article here.  Don't forget to download it, pump up my cite count . . . .  HAH
